I was doing some holiday reading this week and learned that we have 60,000 thoughts a day. That’s a lot of opportunities to impact your day don’t you think?
As you may know, your thoughts lead to your feelings, which lead to your actions, which lead to your results or outcomes.
So your thoughts are powerful…
And I know that you may be thinking that financial freedom is something you can’t have, or that you don’t know how to do it, or maybe even that you don’t deserve it…
But the good news is that you can, and it all starts with your thoughts, all 60,000 of them each day!
Choose Your Thoughts
The best part about having 60,000 thoughts a day is that you have the capacity to choose how you think and what thoughts you allow into your mindset.
There exists the notion of ‘metacognition’, which is the process of thinking about thinking.
In the book ‘Creating Great Choices’ written by Jennifer Riel and Roger L. Martin they explain how metacognition is about understanding our own thinking and controlling that thinking.
They suggest that this means there is both self-awareness and self-control when it comes to your thoughts.
So why is this important?
You know that your thoughts are the origin of your outcomes…
…you have the ability to choose your thoughts…
…and now you know that you can control your thoughts with self-awareness.
All that means is that financial freedom can be yours; you just have to choose thoughts that support the outcome of financial freedom. Boom!
4 Steps to Self-Control of Your Thoughts
Let’s have a look at four steps you can take to manage your thoughts for success with money.
Step 1 – Awareness
The first step is to be aware of your thoughts, especially those related to money.
It is impossible to change something unless you know it exists.
If you are having negative thoughts about your money circumstances, such as ‘I can’t make more money’ or ‘I don’t deserve to be wealthy’ or worse, ‘rich people are lucky’, then this first step of awareness is crucial.
Knowing that you have the thoughts will enable you to move to the next step to understand the impact of these thoughts.
Step 2 – Understanding
This step involves reflection.
Understanding is about identifying where this way of thinking originates. It allows you to recognise that these thoughts have to come from outside of you, from external influences.
Spend some time to understand the impact these thoughts have had on your money circumstances in the past before moving to the next step.
Step 3 – Disassociation
Once you recognise that your previous way of thinking is not serving you, you can separate yourself from these thoughts and choose to let them go.
You can observe that this way of thinking is just a file of information that has been stored in your mind for a long time now, and no longer holds any truth or value for you and your financial circumstances.
You now realize that you have a choice to be different, to choose different thoughts about money that empower your success.
That’s uplifting isn’t it?
Step 4 – Reconditioning
Reconditioning is about training your mind to respond in a supportive manner when it comes to money and success. Although I am proposing you complete this process for your money circumstances, you can do this for any aspect of your life.
Reconditioning involves fuelling your mind with positive thoughts.
Some people use affirmations to achieve this process, which I have used at times, and still come back to when I need reminding.
Some affirmations that you can use include:
“I observe my thoughts and entertain only those that empower me”
“I create my financial success”
“I commit to being wealthy”
Better Outcomes, Better Results
By choosing your thoughts, you have the opportunity to change your outcomes for better results.
The self-awareness and self-control you can gain over your thoughts will enable you to decide what you want and then make it happen.
It’s as simple as moving away from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset…
By choosing abundant thoughts, you are programming your financial mindset for success. With 60,000 opportunities per day, you really don’t have any reason not to be wealthy.
I believe you can do it, so let’s make this week a positive thoughts only week.
Let me know what thoughts have held you back in the past and how you are going to change them for success.
