Believe you can…

This week I have been having a number of conversations about wealth creation and one of the things that has struck me is the number of times I have said – believe you can.

I have been providing you with a number of habits and rituals of the wealthy, but this week it came to me that there is one big stumbling block that needs to be addressed.

Hobelievew to get started?

If you are like most people, you will have tried to create wealth in one way or another, and likely encountered difficulties along the way.

And these difficulties are likely to come from within you.

Success in any endeavour cannot be achieved without that core element of belief. You have to start with a mindset of ‘I believe I can do this’…

Fixed versus Growth Mindset

Brendon Burchard describes this as the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

A fixed mindset is where you don’t believe you can grow or get better at what you do or want to do. If you have a fixed mindset you believe that things in your life will always be the way they are now.

You will believe that you can’t get better than what you are now.

This is real limiting belief stuff…

On the other hand, a growth mindset has at its core the mindset that you can figure things out, that you can improve, and learn what is required to achieve your goals.

I can figure things out and I can improve!

Consider the difference between these two mindsets…

What chance do you have of being better, of achieving anything in life if you have a fixed mindset?

My simple response is… no chance!

I have always had people that I admired for their success, people like Richard Branson, Warren Buffett, Louise Bedford, Tony Robbins, and more recently Eben Pagan and Jeff Walker.

In ocan do itrder to have the success of these mentors, you have to believe you can achieve what they have achieved. Without the belief, you will likely quit at the first speed bump.

I can’t recall where I heard this anecdote, but a father said to his son, that if one person can achieve what you want, then you can too.

So if it is possible for Richard Branson or Warren Buffett to create financial freedom for themselves, then it is possible for me and you… simple right?

How do I Start – Believe

To the question that I have been hearing this week, that is, ‘but how do I start?’… the answer is reasonably straightforward.

Believe that you can achieve your goals first and then get started with taking action, begin the journey now. There is no better time to start creating your financial freedom than right now.

Having the belief allows you to get started.

Brendon Burchard suggests that you need to believe in your ability to ‘figure things out’.

To achieve success you will be faced with times where you don’t necessarily know the right path forward, or you don’t know how to do something…

Believe in your ability to figure it out and you will get past these blockages.

The second part of the process is to question your assumptions.

When I first started on the wealth creation journey, I had all the usual doubts… who am I to be successful? I could never create the type of wealth that successful people have achieved. I don’t have the skills to do it…

But the secret to overcoming these doubts is in your assumptions. Question your assumptions, which is all these doubts are.

Your current situation does not need to be your future and certainly shouldn’t prevent you from believing you can be better.

Think about who you were and what you were capable of 10 years ago and 20 years ago. Are you different today from what you were 10 or 20 years ago? Of course you are…

Put that into perspective and then think about what you could be in 10 years. What could you achieve in the next 10 years?

Ququestion your doubtsestion your limiting beliefs, the mind clutter that says you can’t be better, or wealthier…

Question the doubts, because with belief you know you can be better, that you can achieve what you want and in fact that is the only thing that has ever enabled successful people to achieve their goals… a wholehearted attitude that they believe they can do it.

What’s the Catch

Now in life there is always a catch… I can already hear you saying ‘yeah but’…

And the catch is simple… You have to develop and learn for yourself.

Nobody is going to tell you how to do the things you need to do, you need your own plan and you need to go out and take massive action to make it happen.

You will need to listen to those that have achieved what you want. Find them, read their blogs, listen to their podcasts, buy their products, learn everything you need to know to achieve your goals.

Because nobody is going to come to you with a roadmap, you need to create your own…

If you decide you want to use property to create wealth, learn everything there is to know about property investing.

If it is stock investing, learn everything there is to know about investing in stocks.

And if it is your own business idea, learn everything there is to learn about starting your business, marketing your idea, selling your idea, and growing your business.

Instead of saying ‘I don’t know how to do that’, go out and learn how…

Be Open to Opportunities

By having a mindset where you believe you can do it, you will be far more open to opportunities.

We live in a modern society where opportunities are everywhere, maybe at times there are too many opportunities.

However, as you develop your knowledge and your mindset of belief, you will get stronger and more open to new ideas.

The mind clutter will be gone and you will be more accepting of new opportunities.

Once you are more open to these new ideas and opportunities, creating wealth and achieving your financial freedom will become easier.

Now I am not saying that it will be easy, far from it, but it is a lot easier than if you don’t believe you can do it.

I have a favourite saying from Henry Ford that succinctly states this for you:

Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right…

Conclusion

There will be times in your journey that are hard, where things won’t go as planned.

The best way to manage these times is to stay strong to your belief, continue to believe you can do it.

Brendon Burchard describes it as ‘honouring the struggle’.

Know that difficulty will make you stronger, difficulty is just a lesson to be learned that will make you better.

There is a Japanese proverb that suggests ‘Fall seven times, stand up eight’… which is a great way to understand the power of belief.

The difficulty will only stop you if you let it. Learn the lesson and continue, move on toward your goals.

I believe you can do it.
