Money flows where your focus goes

Have you recently stopped to think about where your money flows?

It’s an interesting concept, and one that less than 4% of the population contemplates regularly. For those that have really taken control of their money, they don’t just think about it. They have a focused plan for where their money flows every time they receive any money.

focusOur brain has an incredible power to deliver us what we want, as long as we are clear and precise as to what it is.

Now I am going to make a big assumption here and suggest that you want financial freedom. At the very least, you want to have enough money to do more of the things that you love the most.

When you think about money and your future there are some simple guidelines you can follow to make achieving your goals a lot easier.

You see, the brain works with specifics…

What is Your Focus?

If you describe financial freedom as having a lot of money, the brain doesn’t know what that is. As a result it will struggle to assist you to achieve that outcome. Think about it, what is ‘a lot of money’?

A lot of money is going to be different for everybody. Just think back to when you were a little kid and your parents gave you some money, maybe it was $5 or even 25 cents. At the time, that was a lot of money to you. Now $5 doesn’t even buy you a large coffee in some cafes.

However, if you say that you want a passive income of $100,000 in 5 years’ time, that is a far more specific outcome and your mind will be able to work with you to assist in achieving this desired outcome.

This is where FOCUS comes into play.

When it comes to your focus, my research has shown that the best in the self-improvement industry, people like Anthony Robbins and T.Harv Eker, teach that your focus is crucial to your success.

T.Harv Eker has a great saying, ‘What you focus on expands’. This is a relatively simple concept to understand, what you spend the most time thinking about, focussing on, expands.

If you apply this principle to your life, what does it tell you?

What do you spend the most time focussing on? Is it your financial goals, or is it the next social media post, or the latest bad news story in the news.

Money flows where focus goes…

So what do you focus on?

Here are some basic steps to take to determine your focus.

  1. Spend 30 minutes each morning writing a journal. Just get your thoughts down on paper and see what comes to you. You will be amazed at how effective this process can be. If 30 minutes is too much, start with 10 minutes and work your way to 30 minutes.

journallingI have been undertaking a journal process for the last few years now. I don’t often get it done first thing in the morning as I exercise first thing in the morning, but I incorporate the process in my day and make sure I clear my head by writing for 30 minutes.

You just write whatever is on your mind, the key is to keep the pen moving, and that way you give yourself the best opportunity to dig deep into the subconscious, which is where the real gems come from.

This business, The Investor’s Way, is a direct result of the journal process. I have had a number of significant breakthroughs from this process and I highly recommend it as a great tool to improve your focus and your money flows.

  1. Write a list of your wants – keep writing for as long as you can, no matter how trivial you think the want might be. You should be able to fill a page.

Once you are done, reflect on the list, what are the dominant themes?

Group the ones that appear similar together. It is highly likely that as you group them a theme or story will emerge.

This theme or story will guide you to where you want to direct your FOCUS. Listen to what your list is telling you.

  1. At night spend 10 minutes reflecting on your day, what activities did you prioritize? Did the activities you prioritized match your dominant themes?

When you do these steps there are some key outcomes I want you to notice.

Money Flows: Focus as a Priority

The single most important learning from this exercise is that unless you are prioritizing your wants and aspirations, it is highly likely that you won’t be making progress with them. Harsh but its reality.

money flowsIn order for you to make the progress you are seeking, you have to FOCUS on what you want and go after it with passion. Make it a priority in your life.

So when it comes to your wealth, you have to focus on your money flows. Your money and wealth will only expand in proportion to the focus that you attribute to your money.

Leaving your wealth to chance and some vague hopes and dreams is not enough.
